I am a Latine, first-generation, low-income student from El Paso, TX. My parents immigrated from Mexico shortly before I was born. I grew up exploring irrigation canals among the pecan groves near my home and became fascinated with aquatic animals, particularly fish! In the sixth grade, I decided I would be a marine biologist and have studied science and nature ever since.

I completed my Bachelor of Science in Geology-Biology at Brown University. I was a National College Match QuestBridge Scholar and my studies were fully funded by Sidney E. Frank, a Brown University donor. At Brown, I specialized in ocean science, climate cycles (from annual time scales to billions of years), and marine community ecology. Eventually, I figured out that "marine biologist" covered a wide variety of job titles and I decided to pursue academia to become a university professor. I hope to do research and teach my students about the incredible science that is being done all over the world!

As part of my journey to become a professor, I am now a PhD student at Stanford University in Molly Schumer's lab studying fish evolution.
